Alan Ladd Jr, the veteran film producer who won a Best Picture Oscar for Braveheart and commissioned George Lucas to write Star Wars, has died today at the age of 84. His daughter Amanda Ladd.. Alan Ladd Jr.. Additional Crew: Braveheart. Alan Ladd Jr. was one of the film industry’s most respected executives. He started in the movies as an agent in 1963. In 1969, Ladd moved to London to produce, making nine films. He returned to the States in ’73 to become Head of Creative Affairs at Fox. Within three very successful years Mr. Ladd was President of Twentieth Century Fox.
